Senior Vice President, Syndicated Research

Mike has carried out market research and consulting in the broader laboratory instrumentation space for more than 20 years. He joined the Science and Medicine Group team when SDi & IBO were acquired in 2014. Based in Los Angeles, Mike manages the teams that produce the publications for the SDi, IBO, and Kalorama brands.

Alice Kan

Manager of Market Analytics

Alice Kan brings over eight years of market research experience to her role at SDi, where she specializes in the analytical and life science instruments industry. Before transitioning into market intelligence, Alice spent five years conducting laboratory research in molecular genetics, with a focus on epigenetics and cancer progression. That scientific foundation gives her an unusually grounded perspective on the instruments and technologies she covers. Alice holds both an MSc and an MBA, and applies that combined expertise to translate complex market data into clear, actionable intelligence for her clients.

Amethyst Holder

Market Analyst

Amethyst joined the Science and Medicine Group as a Market Analyst on the SDi team in 2021. She provides evidence‑based market intelligence of life science and automated analytical instrument markets. She delivers market research insights for SDi publications including survey-based analysis of LIMS, ELN, and broader lab informatics trends. Amethyst holds a MSc in Toxicology. Her background spans research and business including AMR surveillance, analytics, clinical training, and radiology management at a software development firm.

Claire Julian

SDi Market Analyst

Claire brings 10+ years of research and product development experience, combining data analytics and strategic intelligence skills to deliver data-driven market insights. Her broad graduate training included classical organic synthesis, chemical biology, hyperspectral imaging product development, and applied materials science, and she has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in biomedical research. Claire holds a master’s degree in Chemistry and is based in Pittsburgh.

Wes Bova

Wes is a seasoned market analyst who previously worked in biomedical engineering research and robotics and software product integration. Tanya Samazan has written about the analytical and life science instrument industry for over 20 years. She is Editor-in-Chief of the Instrument Business Outlook (IBO) newsletter, published twice monthly. She has written extensively about major companies, business trends, end-markets and technology developments, providing insight and analysis about industry prospects and developments. Tanya is a graduate of UCLA and previously worked at the UCLA Law Review.

Joseph Yates

Financial Writer

Joseph’s background includes his varied work in compliance within the financial services sector. For IBO, he tracks and analyzes the financial data and investor information of selected public companies within the analytical instrument and lab product industry. Joseph holds a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Anthropology from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.
